Welcome's you to Baltimore!

2015 Legacy Run, Welcome to Towson Maryland.

On behalf of The American Legion Family at Towson American Legion Post 22 the 2015 Legacy Scholarship Run Ending point in Maryland. We welcome you to enjoy our great city. Founded, July 30, 1729 and named after Lord Baltimore.

Baltimore is the second largest seaport in the Mid-Atlantic United States and is situated closer to Midwestern markets than any other major seaport on the East Coast. Baltimore's Inner Harbor was once the second leading port of entry for immigrants to the United States and a major manufacturing center. After a decline in major manufacturing, industrialization and rail transportation, Baltimore shifted to a service-oriented economy, with the Johns Hopkins Hospital (founded 1889), and Johns Hopkins University (founded 1876), now serving as the city's top two employers.

We challenge you to get lost in this great history packed city!

Reaching from the rugged Appalachian Mountains in the west to sandy ocean beaches on the Eastern Shore, Maryland is a small yet hugely popular state in which to live — only 42nd in size but 19th in population. Maryland is known as “America in the Miniature”:

Residents enjoy a generally moderate climate and a diverse geography that includes 17,000 miles of waterways and 450,000 acres of public land. The state's defining feature is the Chesapeake Bay, America's largest estuary. The bay and its many tributaries; including the Susquehanna, Patapsco, Patuxent and Potomac rivers — are a life-sustaining food source as well as a major recreational resource.

Washington, D.C. attractions are within 50 miles of Baltimore, while the white-sand beaches of Ocean City — the East Coast's No. 1 family resort — loom less than a three-hour drive away.

Come and enjoy the beauty and ambiance of Baltimore! We dare ya Hon!
